Kristin Cawley began riding dirt trails at 6 years of age, as well as on the gas tanks of her mother and father's motorcycles. Her enthusiasm for motorcycling has continued with her daughter Gracelynn who has a Honda 50 and who is being taught how to ride at the age of 4. Kristin began teaching the Basic Rider Course in 2006, she has continued her love for riding and teaching others the art of motorcycling throughout various avenues in the motorcycling fields such as 2 wheels, 3 wheels, scooters, experienced and advanced courses. Outside of work Kristin loves to be with her family on the farm near Smith Mountain Lake, she loves to cook with her daughter, volunteers yearly at the Farm Aid Concert, goes to the beach and lake as much as possible with Gracelynn. Kristin and Gracelynn love hot rods and kustom kemps, often times driving their cars to attend car shows around the country.

Don Withrow is the Chief Operating Officer and a Partner for Motorcycle Riding Concepts. Don rode a motorcycle for the first time when he was just 12 years-old. He bought his first motorcycle (a 125cc Allstate) at age 14 with the money he earned mowing lawns and doing odd jobs. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army for 20 years spending six years in overseas assignments including two years in Vietnam. Working with riders, young and old, to develop and hone their riding skills is a passion for Don. He has been teaching students to ride motorcycles safely since 2001 including novice, intermediate and experienced riders.

Don's passion outside of riding motorcycles and teaching students to ride motorcycles is Washington Redskins football. Although he has been mostly disappointed with the team since 1993, he's still an avid fan and goes to as many games as he can.

1.5 HRS OF PRE-COURSE COACHING before your Basic Rider Course.

This can be a stand-alone training opportunity. If you have no experience, Headstart is a valuable opportunity to familiarize yourself with motorcycle riding at a slower, less stressful pace than the larger class setting. We familiarize you with the motorcycle, friction zone, shifting and get you started on exercises! Our Headstart students claim this icebreaker did much to boost their confidence and get them off to a good solid start.

Headstart may be taken independent of the Basic RiderCourse and more than once. Not sure if Motorcycling is for you? Try HEADSTART and find out!

Many students sign up for Headstart just prior to their Basic RiderCourse. This gives them some advance preparation for the Basic RiderCourse a day or two, or even a week, before the full course.
