How to Get Your Virginia Motorcycle License
The Virginia DMV Class-M Motorcycle Designation
To drive a motorcycle in Virginia you must obtain the Class M designation on your license.
Take the Motorcycle Riding Concepts Basic Rider Course to get your Virginia motorcycle license
- Take the Motorcycle Riding Concepts Basic Rider Course
- During the class, pass both the written motorcyle exam and the motorcycle riding skills test.
- Within one year of the class completion, take your certificate to the DMV for your M-Class driver designation.
Your Virginia DMV Waiver Certificate
Upon successful completion of the class you will receive a DMV waiver certificate. This certificate serves as the Virginia motorcycle driver's license for thirty days.
Your Virginia DMV Motorcycle Endorsement License
For one year from the date of issuance, the certificate serves as a waiver of the Virginia DMV written motorcycle test and the Virginia DMV motorcycle riding skills test. You will take the certificate to DMV and obtain the motorcycle endorsement. You will not have to take the motorcycle tests at the DMV.
