If you still have questions then please drop us a note on our Contact Us page. Do I need a learner's permit to take the Basic RiderCourse or the Harley-Davidson Riding Academy New Rider Course? Yes. You need either a learner's permit or a driver's license to take the course. Do I need a permit to take the Intermediate Rider Course (IRC), Advanced Skills Course (ASC) or Skills Camp (ESC)? Yes, you will need a motorcycle learner's permit or a motorcycle license to attend all MRC group courses except Headstart and the Basic RiderCourse. You do not, however, need a license or permit for MRC individual classes. Do I need my own motorcycle or scooter to take the Basic RiderCourse? No. MRC provides you with a 250cc motorcycle or a 150cc scooter to take Headstart and the Basic RiderCourse. As a matter of fact State policy prohits you from using your own motorcycle in the class. I have an MRC Gift Certificate. How do I use it? It's simple. Just register for the class you want to take and when you reach the shopping cart enter the gift certificate number in the Discount Coupon field and click the Apply My Discount button. How much is each course? Basic RiderCourse - $339 Headstart - $95 Individual Novice Level 1- $160 Individual Novice Level 2 - $185 Individual Intermediate - $235 Seat Time - $170 for a Suzuki TU (250cc) or your m/c. Add: $25 for H-D Street 500 & $50 for H-D Police Road King or Dyna. Intermediate Rider Course (IRC) - $235. Advanced Skills Course - $310.00 for a Suzuki TU (250cc). Add: $50 for H-D Street 500 & $100 for H-D Police Road King or Dyna Skills Camp - $310 per day for 2 or 3 days for a Suzuki TU (250cc) or your m/c. Add: $50/day for H-D Street 500 & $100/day for H-D Police Road King or Dyna Individual Skills Course - $310 for a Suzuki TU (250cc) or your m/c. Add: $25 for H-D Street 500 & $50 for H-D Police Road King or Dyna. Can I ride my own Motorcycle? For the Basic RiderCourse and Headstart you must ride the our training motorcycle (or scooter) per state rules. For all other courses, you may choose to ride your motorcycle. It must pass our safety review and you will need to sign a waiver. The course price will remain the same. If you choose to ride your motorcycle, you are not locked in to that. You may always switch to our training motorcycle which will be readily avialable during your course. The Road Kings and scooters are reserved on a first-come, first-serve basis. What happens if it rains? We train rain or shine, so bring your rain gear with you. If there is lightning, we will clear the training site and gauge the weather. What do I need to bring to class? While on the range, BRC students must wear sturdy long pants (no yoga, scrubs or work out pants), a long-sleeved shirt or jacket, and footwear that covers the ankle (riding boots are preferred—absolutely no sneakers), a 3/4 or full coverage DOT helmet, eye protection ,and full-fingered gloves (no cut-out fingers). MRC can provide a helmet, eye-protection, and gloves, or you may bring your own. Requirements for all other classes are the same as the BRC except you may wear your DOT approved 1/2 helmet and we do not require long sleeves. Where are the courses held? Our courses are held at our Fair Oaks campus located at Fair Oaks Mall, Fairfax, VA. (See here) Is MRC part of the Virginia Rider Training Program? Yes, MRC is affiliated with the Virginia Rider Training Program. Successful completion of our Basic RiderCourse (BRC) exempts you from the Virginia DMV written and riding skills test. Patriot Harley-Davidson & MRC also offer a Riding Academy New Riders Course which also exempts you from the Virginia DMV test. The DC DMV recognizes the Virginia DMV Completion certificate, however you are required to take and pass their written test. Read more here.
